The combination of entrepreneurship, innovation and technology has become the source of disruptive business models that transform industries and markets. The integrative understanding of these three drivers of today’s economy is fundamental to business. Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology aims to connect core models and tools that are already created by well-known authors and scholars in order to deliver a unique guide for building successful business models through the adoption of new technologies and the use of effective innovation methods. The book goes through the entrepreneurial lifecycle, describing and applying core innovation models and tools such as the business model canvas, lean startup, design thinking, customer development and open innovation, taking into consideration disruptive technologies such as mobile internet, cloud computing, internet of things and blockchain. Finally the book describes and analyses how successful cases have been applying those models and technologies. With the mix of an academic and practitioner team, this book aims to go against the grain by its positioning of entrepreneurship in the modern technology economy. This book will prove to be a vital text for any student, specialist or practitioner looking to succeed in the field.

Published on 2004-03-31 by Springer Science & Business Media

This volume celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Association of American Geographers. It recognizes the importance of technologies in the production of geographical knowledge. The original chapters presented here examine technologies that have affected geography as a discipline. Among the technologies discussed are cartography, the camera, aerial photography, computers, and other computer-related tools. The contributors address the impact of such technologies on geography and society, disciplinary inquiries into the social/technological interfaces, high-tech as well low-tech societies, and applications of technologies to the public and private sectors. Geography and Technology can be used as a textbook in geography courses and seminars investigating specific technologies and the impacts of technologies on society and policy. It will also be useful for those in the humanities, social, policy and engineering sciences, planning and development fields where technology questions are becoming of increased importance. Geography clearly has much to learn from other disciplines and fields about geography/technology linkages; others can likewise learn much from us.

The impact of technology on society is clear and unmistakable. The influence ofsociety on technology is more subtle. The 13 essays in this book draw on a wide array of casestudies from cooking stoves to missile systems, from 15thÂ\u00adcentury Portugal to today's AI labs- to outline an original research program based on a synthesis of ideas from the social studies ofscience and the history of technology. Together they affirm the need for a study of technology thatgives equal weight to technical, social, economic, and political questions.

Technology as Magic PDF
By:Richard Stivers,Peter Stirk
Published on 2001-08-01 by A&C Black

What gives the mass media, particularly advertising and television, their extraordinary power over our lives, so that even the most jaded and sophisticated among us are troubled and fascinated by their allure? The secret, according to Richard Stivers, in this brilliant new book, lies in the curious relationship between technology and magic. Stivers argues the two are now related to one another in such a way that each has taken on important characteristics of the other. His contention is that our expectations for technology have become magical to the point that they have generated a multitude of imitation technologies that function as magical practices. These imitation technologies flourish in the fields of psychology, management administration, and the mass media, and their paramount purpose in human adjustment and control. Advertising and television programs, in particular, contain the key magical rituals of our civilization. In a fascinating analysis of television programming, Stivers shows how various genres--news, sports, game shows, soap operas, sitcoms, etc.--have their distinct mythological symbols. Through dramatized information, they symbolically connect consumer goods and services to desired outcomes--the utopian goals of success, happiness, and health--thus enveloping technology, both real and imitation, in a magical cocoon.

Regenerating Agriculture: PDF
By:International Institute for Environment and Development, London,Jules N. Pretty,A Joseph Henry Press book
Published on 1995-05-03 by National Academies Press

It is becoming increasingly clear that a more sustainable agriculture can bring economic, environmental, and social benefits to farmers, communities, and nations. Regenerating Agriculture draws together for the first time new empirical evidence from a diverse range of agroecological and community settings to show the impacts of more sustainable practices. Twenty cases involving widespread success from Brazil, Burkina Faso, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Lesotho, Mali, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, and Sri Lanka are presented, and are supported by field- and community-level data from more than 50 projects and programs in 28 countries. Despite this emerging evidence, many farmers still depend on high levels of external inputs. Regenerating Agriculture, identifies the common elements of successful programs and shows how those still using |modernist| approaches to agriculture can successfully turn to sustainable farming. The first chapter outlines the scale of the challenge and includes analysis of sustainable agriculture's characteristics and underlying philosophies and values. Pretty then presents analyses of the processes of agricultural modernization, focusing on both production- and conservation-oriented programs and policies and the common elements of success. Almost all of these successes have been achieved despite existing, biased policy environments that strongly favor |modern| approaches to agricultural development, and at the same time discriminate against sustainability. Regenerating Agriculture examines policy frameworks and institutional processes, then sets out 25 effective policies that are known to work to support the transition to greater sustainability and self-reliance in agriculture.

Tropical Legumes PDF
By:National Research Council,Research Coun National Research Council
Published on 2002-06-01 by The Minerva Group, Inc.

This National Academy of Sciences report describes plants of the family Leguminosae, all of them greatly underexploited. Some are extensively used in one part of the world but unknown elsewhere; others are virtually unknown to science but have particular attributes that suggest they could become major crops in the future; a few are already widespread but their possibilities are not yet fully realized. Most of the plants described in this book have the capacity to provide their own nitrogenous fertilizer through bacteria that live in nodules on their roots; the bacteria chemically convert nitrogen gas from the air into soluble compounds that the plant can absorb and utilize. As a result, legumes generally require no additional nitrogenous fertilizer for average growth. This is advantageous because commercial nitrogenous fertilizers are now extremely expensive for peasant farmers.
